Reading Smiling Poems of Photo-Poet

Kumar Ale is a hobbyist photographer, but his photographs have earned him a unique nickname – ‘Photo Poet’. And he was on the limelight for last eight days as his photographs of smiling litterateurs were exhibited at the Nepal Art Council. I am not a frequent visitor to the art exhibition, but for the sake of a hobby that engulfed me during my last five teen ages plus three early after-teen ages, I went there on the last day and I found it a worthy visit. How Long Since You Went to Cinema?

As I was passing by the Guna Cinema Hall, a friend of mine asked me the question. I tried to remember when did I watch cinema in theatre. I remembered watching an English movie, but couldn’t remember watching any Nepali or Hindi movie in theatre lately. That doesn’t mean I haven’t watches any cinema, but I certainly prefer watching them in my home on my own computer at my own pace at the time I wish taking as many (and long) break as I want. And that cost much less than what I pay at the theatre. Continue reading…

Media Prioritized Negative Side?

I came across an interesting news bulletin yesterday. The ‘Reporters’ News Corner: News Bulletin of Reporters’ Club Nepal’ is the rapport of the face-to-face program on media organized by the club. The headline ‘we are aware to be balanced and responsible: senior journalists’ is accompanied by ‘journalists admit press prioritized negative side’ in bold face. Naturally, I was more attracted towards the second line and looked for the journalists who admitted it in the story. Continue reading…

How Many Sides A Story Has?

While having lunch with Dinesh and me, Deepak talked about an incident. He told us that he along with Saroj, a reporter of Nepal Weekly, went to receive their editor at the airport when he returned from Europe. Other at his office called it palm-greasing. He replied them saying they didn’t go because they were afraid of tight security at the airport. And he told us – it showed a story has two sides. Then, I told them actually any story has more than two sides.

After Recovering From Fever

Somehow, all unknowningly, fever hit me, took me to bed for complete rest for two days and still now, when I am at my office, the fever is still haunting me with a feel of weakness, slight headache and aching eyes.

My country is the same. Something went wrong for it for last few years, now its bed-ridden, in a crisis, and the head of the state, King Gyanendra promises us all will be well soon. We all know something is going to chage for forever, but we all are unanswered to ‘what and with what conseqences’.

Lazy Saturday, Great Reading!

Saturdays for me are generally lazy days – I have the day-off at office and usually have no errands to run after. Thus, most of my Saturdays mean the busy telephone line (no not because I call friends, but because I use the Internet) and then, reading everything (novels or books or newspaper). And, what a day was today – reading my own The Kathmandu Post gave me intrinsic satisfaction with its front page contents. Continue reading…

In Praise of Raamesh

Raamesh is a veteran singer, a musician who has long attracted my heart like no other singer has. The 59-year-old may be compared with Bob Marley or Bob Dylan, but I feel to compare him with anybody else would be to underestimate him. Raamesh, a member of Ralfa movement, has something in his voice that always makes me feel revolutionary. Continue reading…

Religious Gurus & Me

I remember going to Pashupatinath area early morning a few years ago with my close friend Nilesh to have a darshan of Sankaracharya – Jayendra Saraswoti of Kanchi Kam Kothi peth of India. I have no faith whatsoever on those types of religious gurus, but I don’t know why did I went there at that time. Its a coincidence, that early morning today when I tuned TV, I heard that he has been arrested for murder charge.
