Wishes for Peaceful Dashain!

A year ago, on Oct 19, 2004, I blogged at UWB! wishing all a peaceful Vijaya Dashami. I had used peaceful instead of happy because we believe peace will make all Nepalis happy. I wish/pray this Dashain will give all Nepalis their lost dreams back.

Yes! We have lost our dreams. We dreamt of a prosperous Nepal; we dreamt of a nation that was well-developed. But these dreams are now on the back foot. We now desperately hope that peace will return as well as democracy and our freedom.

From last year to now, we have lost one more thing – democracy – our power to decide. In between this Dashain, we as journalists are feeling more regressed as the government introduced a ordinance that will ensure there comes no news about the bad.

Truth is always truth. But the truth we believe may be a biased truth. For us the truth is that without democracy we are armless; for the King, the truth is probably he is the only capable person in the entire earth to rule Nepal; the truth for the insurgents is that they are the only one who have understood they way they are thinking is the truth.

Dashain is celebrated for the victory of good over evil. Let’s pray this Dashain will help us understand the truth.

Let’s pray the god and goddess will show some mercy on us and give us the happiness again – the happiness that will be never broken again. Let’s pray peace will make a comeback and all we will be able to celebrate the Dashain without any fear. Let’s pray the political deadlock will end forever. Let’s pray Nepal becomes a heaven (of alive people) again!

Happy and Peaceful Dashain!
