Peaceful Vijaya Dashami

Did the title sound odd to you? It should and it should not.

The common greeting for the biggest festival of the country is ‘Happy Vijaya Dashami’. Yet most of the people wishing me on the occassion are using, intentionally or unintentionally, ‘Peaceful Vijaya Dashami’. And though a word has changed, for most of the time I hear it, it seems like the word peaceful is in it incorporated since the time immemorable.

It should sound odd to us:

Because the first word in it has been changed.

It should not sound odd to us:

Because the peace is what everybody in Nepal want to see.

Due to the Maoist insurgency, Nepal has become a blood-flowing nation. People are killing each other. Its difficult for me to plan a tour outside Kathmandu valley and the valley is not safe itself. I walk on the street always with the fear that the bomb can explode near me.

I don’t like all this. I would have loved the peaceful situation regardless of who was in the power. I would have loved the walk without fear. But, it seems like it won’t come again. Would the solution to the Maoist problem would bring back the situation.

HELL NO! What would all these insurgents do? Why would they chose to plouging field whole day after being used to the easy life with guns? There are lots of such insurgents I believe who are in the insurgency not for the people but for themselves in a hope that if they come into power they would be rich and powerful. Didn’t our current batch of politicians showed that all?

Aama Durga, the goddess, let everybody feel that living together in peaceful situation is what we want and give the politicians and Maoists a bit of intelligence to understand all this.
