Bio

Ujjwal Acharya is a journalist, media researcher and journalism trainer based in Kathmandu, Nepal. His research interest lies in the intersection of communication, journalism, technology and society.

He is the Director of CMR Nepal Journalism Academy. He is a media researcher, and journalism trainer. He spent most of his career as a journalist working with Tarun (entertainment/sports reporter), Nepal Samacharpatra (sports reporter, 1999-2001), The Kathmandu Post (Sports Bureau Co-ordinator, 2001 – 09), Republica (Online Coordinator, 2009 – 11), Annapurna Post (Digital Editor, 2013-14) and BBC News Nepali (Senior Journalist – Social Media, 2019-22).

He also worked with UNESCO Kathmandu (Communication & Information Consultant, 2012-13) and the International Federation of Journalists (South Asia Coordinator, 2014-18).

His most recent publication is Nepal’s Misinformation Landscape (edited, 2025). He is the founder-chair (2011-13) and Executive Director (2013-2018) of Center for Media Research – Nepal.

He is the pioneering blogger in Nepal who co-founded, with Dinesh Wagle, Nepal’s first blog – United We Blog! in 2004 and was founder-editor of Nepal’s second sports website – Cricket Nepal from 2001 to until is closed down in 2019.
