Where Dreams Can Take You?

If you dream of climbing Mt Everest, you can at least reach the base camp; if you don’t dream of climbing it, then you won’t even reach basecamp. But this is not only one truth, the bitter side of this is that you can lose all your fingers in your attempts to reach base camp, if you are not careful enough.
The story of beauty queen Anara Gupta highlights the bitter side.

The story of Miss Jammu 2001 Anara of India made quite a story in Indian media but before I watched the special report on Aaj Tak TV channel yesterday, I was not in the position to comment.

Anara became Miss Jammu when she was just 15. It was a dream comes true for her. Thenafter, the organiser, Narindar Kohli, earned faith of her family members and one day raped her in her home while her parents were away. He threatened her not to tell it to anybody. The sex continued and last year she was taken to Himachal Pradesh of India when she was forced to open herself to a person called Yogesh Sharma, who was identified as a film producer. They were filmed. All this came out when the CDs of the blue film were found in the city and she was arrested.

This is a story of a minor being forced into wrong deeds showing her the glitters of glamour world. Her dream to rise above other was cashed wrongly. She was included in the beauty contest despite being a minor.

In the interview to TV, Anara said that she was blackmailed to act as told. This may be true but she couldn’t deny that she at least had no hesistation having sex with Yogesh, the so-called film producer. She appeared so easy and calm in the film.

So, what I believed is that she was ready to do anything, absolutely anything, at that point to be a heroine.

There can be no doubt that she was a victim and should be treated as one mainly because she was a minor. Kohli should be punished.

But there is another side of the story that everybody should learn. Dreaming is okay, but it should be in your reach through the fairway. The world of glamour is so glittering that everything look bright but its not that (something that I learnt when I was an Entertainment Reporter for a weekly years back).

Let’s hope there will be no more Anara and dammed Kohli.
